Merino’s Goal Earns Arsenal Victory Over Chelsea

Mikel Merino scored the solitary goal of the game as Arsenal defeated Chelsea 1-0 in Sunday’s Premier League clash at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal made a strong start, helped by a jittery Robert Sanchez in the Chelsea goal but Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Martinelli and Declan Rice failed to make the most of presentable chances, whilst Marc Cucurella avoided conceding a penalty after a VAR check.

Merino scored the game’s only goal in the 20th minute as he sent a looping header from Martin Odegaard’s corner kick inside the far post.

The Spanish international could have doubled his tally if not for Robert Sánchez’s alert goalkeeping, and Arsenal continued to assert themselves as the stronger side in the contest.

Chelsea have now won just two points from their last seven Premier League away games (D2 L5) and will be looking nervously over their shoulder. The trio of Manchester City, Newcastle and Brighton are all now within a win over overtaking them in the league table.
