AfroBasket Qualifying Tourney: D’Tigers Defeat Libya In Group Opener

Nigeria DTigers beat hosts Libya 75-70 in their first game of the second window of the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket qualifying tournament in Tripoli on Friday night.

Despite losing the opening two quarters, D’Tigers ralliedback to secure the win.

The Libyans came out tops in the first quarter by 15 – 14 and also took the second quarter 35 – 32.

D’Tigers then bounced back to take the third quarter 52-51 before before wrapping the fourth quarter by 75-70.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian team will be back on Saturday, February 22 when they will take on Uganda.

The Ugandans also got off to a flying start with a 63-60 points win over Cape Verde on Friday.

The 2025 AfroBasket tournament will take place in Angola from 12-24 August.

Teams who have so far booked their tickets for the tournament are DR Congo, Senegal, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt and defending champions Tunisia.

Sixteen teams will compete in Angola in the 31st edition.
