Police Arrest 2 For Alleged Rape, Rescue 2 Victims In Anambra

Operatives of the Anambra State Police attached to the Anti-Cultism Squad located at Enugu-Ukwu in Njikoka local government area of the state have arrested two suspected rapists and armed bandits.

The security operatives also rescued two female victims suspected to have been raped by the randy hoodlums.

Police Public Relations Officer of the state command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga who disclosed this on Monday said the arrests and rescue operations occurred in the late hours of Saturday, 7th December 2024, following a credible information received by the command.

Ikenga said the police team raided an identified black spot in Umunaga Village in Awka South local government area where the two suspects were arrested and their victims rescued.

He gave names of the suspects as Okechukwu Chinwuko, (m) 27 years, who hails from Umunaga Village in Awka-South local government area, and 22-year-old Ezenwa Chinedu, also male from Umuneri Village, Anambra-East local government area of the state.

Ikenga listed some of the incriminating items recovered from the suspects during the raid to include one pump action gun, four live cartridges, cutlass, criminal charms, and substances suspected to be hard drugs.

“The Operatives also rescued two female victims who the suspects have forcibly abused sexually.

“The arrested suspects are currently undergoing interrogation on their modus operandi and further details shall be communicated in due course”, the command’s spokesman said.

He stated further that another team of the operatives attached to Igbo-Ukwu Divisional Police headquarters in Aguata local government area also on the same day, at noon, recovered one white Peugeot J5 Boxer bus with Reg No: AKL 896 XB, a vandalised lister electricity generator, a roller, pipes, an iron bar, one big plier, screwdriver, a big metal cutter and a pair of black canvas from some fugitives and economic saboteurs.

Ikenga said that the hoodlums were vandalising a lister model electricity generator attached to an MTN mast located opposite St. Martin’s Catholic Church Umudege, Igboukwu and on sighting the police team, took to their heels and fled the scene.

He, however, assured that efforts have been activated by the state police command to arrest the fleeing criminals.

The statement called on anyone, especially residents of the area, to assist the police with useful information that could help in arresting the fleeing suspects.
