The Etsu Nupe and Chairman Niger state council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, has stressed the need for wealthy Nigerians to help the underprivileged in the society.
The Etsu Nupe stated this at the weekend at the turbaning of Retired Deputy Comptroller of Customs Aliyu Galadima-Saidu as the Galadima Gari Nupe at his Wadata Palace in Bida.
Alhaji Abubakar said, “Wealth should be circulated and not hoarded; those endowed with wealth should be their brothers’ keepers.”
Therefore, the Etsu Nupe challenged the wealthy sons and daughters of the Nupe land, who are privileged to be rich both at home and in the Diaspora, to return home and establish industries for the benefit of the people.
The Royal father said such action would facilitate the socio-economic development of Nupe land, Niger state and Nigeria as a whole.
He said the traditional institution would always honour those who contribute to developing Nupe land, the state, the country, and humanity.
“Those given traditional titles are people of proven integrity who show concern for the development and socio-economic well-being of the people,” he added.
He said the honour of the new Galadima-Saidu was to encourage others to live exemplary lives in their positions for the general good of the country.
In his remarks, Niger state Governor G Mohammed Umaru Bago described the new Galadiman Gari Nupe as a man of excellence who was outstanding during his service years in the Nigeria Customs Service.
Therefore, the governor appreciated the Etsu Nupe for the honour done to an illustrious son of Bida, pointing out that the Galadiman Nupe is a true ambassador of the Nupes.
