Two families lost their houses as livestock were also killed in a fire incident that swept through Danzago Village in Danbatta local government area of Kano State on Wednesday.
Kano State Fire Service said the incident was reported by one Abdurashid Sha’aibu at approximately 10:48a.m.
Spokesperson of the state fire service, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi said firefighters from the Danbatta Division arrived at the scene of the inferno around 11:22 a.m.
According to Abdullahi, the fire initially engulfed a large family compound at Gidan Ado Yubai, which covers approximately 200 by 200 feet containing 17 rooms, nine sides, and a storage facility.
Two cows, 36 sheep, 17 goats, 10 chicken, and 19 local food storage units (Rumbu) were lost to the ravaging fire.
However, fire personnel managed to save two sheep, four cows, two local food storage units, and other valuable items.
Abdullahi further said the flames subsequently spread to another family compound, Gidan Ibrahim Mai Gariyo, measuring about 150 by 150 feet where it destroyed rooms, one local food storage unit, and killed eight sheep and three goats.
Firefighters successfully salvaged one storage unit and other goods, preventing the fire from spreading to neighboring properties, the fire service image maker said.
He added that one firefighter sustained burn injuries to his leg while battling the blaze, but no human casualty.
He also disclosed that firefighters were deployed to the scene in view of the magnitude of the Inferno from Danbatta and Dawanau stations.
Abdullahi said the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
