Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has launched the MOWA-SARA skills acquisition project aimed at empowering women to be self-sufficient in Karaye local government area of Kano State.
The training initiative was in partnership with Wema Bank Plc.
Welcomed by a mammoth crowd led by the Emir of Karaye, Alhaji Mahraz Karaye, the community was exicted over the project, and the empowerment that accompanied the ceremony were well received by the community.
This initiative aligns with actualising the mandate of the Ministry on economic empowerment of women, and it was designed to impact 500,000 women across the country.
The empowerment focuses on key areas such as vocational skills, access to market, digital skills for beginners and business entrepreneurship.
The skill acquisition center for the project in Kano State is strategically located in Karaye Local Government Area, which also hosts the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp in the State.
Fully equipped with the basic amenities such as water, light, roads, the center is also equipped with computers for ICT training, industrial dehydrating machines, grinding machines, shredders, slicers etc, all used for training purposes.
In her remarks, the Minister said the project is a demonstration of President Bola Tinubu’s willingness and commitment in ensuring that women are empowered across the nation.
She admonished the Karaye community to protect what the Federal Government has given to them. In the same manner, she encouraged the beneficiaries not to take for granted the skills they have acquired.
The Minister noted that an empowered woman adds value to her family, community and the nation.
The highpoint of the event was the Minister’s tour around the facility in company of the Emir, some Directors from the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, Special Advisers, Karaye Local Government Chairman, Haruna Safianu, Karaye community Heads and other dignitaries.
Sulaiman Ibrahim symbolically handed over some starter packs and food items to representatives of different groups of women in Karaye town.
The atmosphere was filled with joy and happiness. Encomium was showered on the Minister for finding Karaye LGA worthy to pilot such laudable project.
