Tinubu Okays New Polytechnic For Abuja

President Bola Tinubu has approved the establishment of a Federal Polytechnic in Gwarinpa District of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The institution, named Bola Ahmed Tinubu Polytechnic, Gwarinpa, aims to promote technological, vocational, and entrepreneurial education in line with Nigeria’s national policy on education.

In a letter dated January 16, 2025, and addressed to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, confirmed the federal government’s approval of the institution. The letter, signed by Alausa, requested Wike to propose suitable locations for both the temporary and permanent sites of the polytechnic in Gwarinpa.

A technical team from the Federal Ministry of Education and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) is expected to visit the proposed locations for inspection. According to the minister, final approval for the takeoff site will be granted based on the team’s recommendations.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, has commended President Tinubu for approving the new polytechnic, describing it as a significant development for the FCT.

In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs, Kingsley Madaki, Maikalangu praised the President’s initiative and acknowledged the role played by the FCT Minister in making the project a reality.

“The establishment of the Federal Polytechnic in Gwarinpa is a dream come true and will contribute to the progress of FCT residents,” Maikalangu said.

He also highlighted the historic appointment of Zaphaniah Bitrus Jisalo, an FCT native and former two-term House of Representatives member for AMAC/Bwari Constituency, as a minister—marking a milestone in the region’s political landscape.

The new polytechnic is expected to enhance access to quality technical and vocational education in the FCT, further strengthening Nigeria’s efforts toward skills development and innovation.
