New principal officers have emerged at the Lagos State House of Assembly less than a week after its former speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, was impeached and replaced by Hon. Mojisola Meranda.
LEADERSHIP Weekend gathered that the House on Friday reconstituted the principal officers of the House.

At the sitting, the impeached Speaker Obasa and two other members of the House Nureni Akinsanya (Mushin 2) and the former Majority Leader, Naheem Adams were absent.

The names of the principal officers were announced by the speaker of the House, Rt (Hon) Meranda.
The principal officers were Hon Temitope Adedeji (Ifako Ijaiye 1) as majority leader, Hon Richard Kasumu (Ikeja 2) – deputy majority leader, Hon Sanni Babatunde (Kosofe 1) – deputy chief whip and Hon Sentoji David (Badagry 2) – chief whip.

The House also appointed Abubakar Taiwo Otun as the acting clerk and set up a Selection Committee to appoint the standing committees. The committee is chaired by the speaker of the House.

During her maiden plenary on Friday as the speaker of the House, Meranda pledged to work with the state governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the judiciary to achieve a greater Lagos.
She appreciated her colleagues for the confidence they reposed in her to serve as the speaker of the 10th Assembly.

She said, “I am indeed very grateful for the confidence you have in me and I pledge to work tirelessly to uphold the virtue of transparency and good governance that the House stands for.

“Today again, we are reminded of the shared responsibilities that rest on our shoulders as representatives of our good people in Lagos State.

“We are elected to give voice to their fears, aspirations and concerns. We are the guardians of this collective trust and we must work to justify the trust they have placed in us.”
