A Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, has ordered the arrest warrant of the manager of gospel singer Mercy Chinwo, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, following a motion filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
TheNewsGuru reports that Justice Alexander Owoeye granted the order after the anti-graft agency sought the warrant to compel Onyedikachukwu’s appearance in court to face allegations of criminal wrongdoing.
Bilikisu Buhari, a EFCC counsel on Thursday had presented the application, citing Sections 35 to 39 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015 and Section 35(1)(c) of the 1999 Constitution.
Buhari told the court that, the agency would issue a public summons to declare Onyedikachukwu wanted if arresting him becomes unsuccessful.
She further argued that the arrest was necessary for Onyedikachukwu to answer charges related to alleged financial misconduct.
TNG learnt that popular gospel singer, Mercy Chinwo had accused her manager of diverting approximately $345,000 from her royalties without proper disclosure.
The EFCC stressed that efforts to arrest the manager had proven unabortive, prompting the warrant request.
The court granted the application and adjourned the case to January 24 for Onyedikachukwu’s arraignment.
