Following the swift intervention of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, Segun Olowookere, an Osun State resident who was sentenced to death by hanging in 2010 for stealing a fowl and eggs, has regained his freedom.
TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) recalls that Governor Adeleke had directed immediate investigation and pardoning action on the case of Segun, according to a statement released by Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Spokesperson to the Governor.
The Governor ordered that the Attorney General intervened in the matter and ensure the young man is listed for prerogative of mercy before the end of the year.
This is after Olowookere’s case gained attention following a viral interview by actress Biola Adebayo in which his parents alleged wrongful arrest and police extortion.
However, in a video shared by Adebayo on Monday, the young man is seen standing outside Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison in Lagos, as a free man.
He further appreciated the Osun governor for the pardon.
“This is Segun Olowookere, we’re just leaving Kirikiri. He is finally out of the correctional centre. Thank you so much for the love and support that we got,” the actress said.
Olowookere was also commended for keeping up with a good behaviour during his incarceration, stating, “The testimonies at the correctional centre were amazing. We are glad he is out now for good.”
