Nollywood actress cum film maker, Funke Akindele has been appointed as the national goodwill ambassador for United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), Nigeria.
TheNewsGuru.com(TNG) reports that Akindele’s appointment was announced during the World AIDS Day commemoration in Abuja on December 3.
Speaking, UNAIDS country director for Nigeria, Leopold Zekeng, hailed the actress for her dedication and commitment to social change.
Zekeng also expressed optimism about her contribution to the fight against HIV/AIDS.
“We are thrilled to welcome Funke Akindele as our National Goodwill Ambassador for Nigeria,” he said.
“Her powerful voice, vast influence, and commitment to social change make her an invaluable ally in our efforts to combat HIV and support people living with HIV in Nigeria. We look forward to working with her to drive positive impact and progress in the fight against AIDS.”
Akindele also shared her excitement on Instagram. She pledged to use her platform to support UNAIDS’ mission.
“I am deeply honoured to have been appointed as @UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador. I remain committed to using my voice and platform to support the global fight against HIV/AIDS,” she wrote.
“Together we can work towards a world where everyone has access to the care, support, and treatment they need.
“I look forward to collaborating with relevant stakeholders and you all to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and promote health and human rights for all.”
