Côte d’Ivoire Coach Snubs His Countryman, Backs Ademola Lookman For 2024 CAF Award

Côte d’Ivoire’s head coach, Emerse Fae, has expressed strong support for Ademola Lookman, stating that he believes Lookman is a deserving candidate for the 2024 CAF Men’s Player of the Year award.

Note that the 2024 CAF awards ceremony is set to take place at the Palais des Congrès in Marrakech, Morocco, from 6 p.m. tonight, December 16.

Lookman, who has had an impressive season, is competing against notable players such as Simon Adingra, Achraf Hakimi, Rowen Williams, and Serhou Guirassy for the coveted title.

Fae emphasized that while he wishes for his player, Adingra to win, Lookman’s achievements on the field make him the standout candidate.

In an interview with Ojb Sports, Fae highlighted Lookman’s contributions during the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where he delivered exceptional performances, alongside his successful run with his club, Atalanta, scoring three crucial goals in the Europa League final.

“I wish it’s Adingra because he’s my player, but Ademola Lookman deserves it; he played very well and scored goals at the AFCON and also did well for his club Atalanta, scoring three goals in the Europa League finals,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nigerian-born defender Patrick Worgu is interested in joining Serie A club Napoli from the forthcoming January transfer window.

The young defender, currently playing for Leece, has garnered attention from some of Europe’s top clubs, including Liverpool and Chelsea, due to his impressive skills on the pitch.

However, it has been revealed by the Italian newspaper Il Mattino that Worgu has communicated to Napoli that he would be eager to join their ranks if they solidify their interest in him as early as next month.

The Partenopei are reportedly prepared to offer a fee of €32 million for the talented 20-year-old, who has made a notable impact with 51 appearances for Leece. Note that Worgu’s current contract with the Yellow and Reds extends until 2029.
