‘I didn’t get preferential treatment’ – Ice Prince recalls experience at Ikoyi Prison

Feel Good” frontliner, hip hop rapper and singer Ice Prince has opened up about his difficult experience at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre in Lagos.

Recall, the Ice Prince Zamani as he is fondly called sometimes, was remanded following allegations of assaulting a police officer.

Speaking on the latest episode of the Listen podcast, Ice Prince described the experience of spending  six days at the facility as “horrible,’’ noting that he had no preferential treatment.

“I didn’t get preferential treatment. It’s a prison, so there was no preferential treatment. I’m not talking about a police cell.

“I’ve seen celebrities who come out of police cells bragging as if they went through some stuff, but if you’ve never been to prison, you haven’t seen it yet,” he said.

The ‘Oleku’ singer however reflected on the friendship that was formed with fellow inmates, likening the experience to “a different institution of higher learning.”

He said, “I made friends in there. We hung out and chatted. It’s a different world. I don’t pray for my worst enemy to experience it.”
